“Mr. Peanut” is officially trading in his famous dapper shoes for the latest sneakers, dubbed the Crunch Force 1s.
Planters announced it is taking orders for a limited-edition high-top basketball sneaker until Friday. The NBA draft is Thursday.
In February, Mr. Peanut’s twitter account sent a sketch of some sneakers inspired by Planters to Nike.
The company was surprised by fan reaction and decided to bring the idea to life, Planters brand manager Samantha Hess said.
“Mr. Peanut plays a special role in people’s hearts and we are always trying to find new ways to keep our consumers happy,” Hess said.
Planters teamed up with sneaker designers Jeff Cole and Seth Fowler and Philadelphia-based sneaker manufacturer Rick Franklin to create the shoe.
“Planters came to us with a vision of how to unite the snack, fashion and hoops worlds and these kicks bring it to life in a truly unique way,” Franklin said in a statement.
Crunch Force 1s will only be available for pre-order now through Friday for $170.
Planters isn’t the first food brand to release a shoe ahead of a big basketball moment. Pizza Hut also released a limited-edition sneaker in 2017, just ahead of March Madness.
