A man was killed Saturday in a shooting in Englewood on the South Side.

Derrick Demetrius Cosby, 28, was found with gunshot wounds to the chest and leg at 2:26 p.m. on the roof of an abandoned building in the 5500 block of South Perry Avenue, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:06 p.m., authorities said.

An autopsy found Cosby, who lived in south suburban Richton Park, died of multiple gunshot wounds and ruled his death a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Cosby was a father of three, according to David Grawey, whom Cosby was related to by marriage.

Grawey says that the police response to Cosby’s murder has been disheartening.

“The police are not providing his mom with any information,” Grawey said. “Being a former law enforcement officer, I find it hard to believe the lack of assistance and compassion, but it is the CPD which leadership is lacking.”

No one is in custody as Area Central detectives continue to investigate.
