A man was killed Saturday as he was crossing the street in Englewood on the South Side, police said.

Maurice R. Taylor, 30, was walking across the street at about 9:20 p.m. in the 6300 block of South Ashland Avenue when a car struck him, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Taylor was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:49 p.m., authorities said. He lived in Englewood, about a block from where he was hit.

An autopsy found he died of blunt force injuries and his death was ruled an accident, the medical examiner’s office said.

The 63-year-old man driving the car was given a citation for failure to reduce speed in order to avoid an accident, police said.
