Charles Zheng had a day to remember for smallmouth bass on Independence Day on Geneva Lake, much to the delight of his mother Cheryl.

“Just wanted to share this great memory of fishing July 4th and catching a huge smallmouth around 4 1/2 pounds on a tube jig. . . . great day,’’ he emailed. “Later caught one even bigger than this one.’’

FOTW, the celebration of big fish and their stories around Chicago fishing, runs Wednesdays in the Sun-Times. Submit nominations on Facebook (Dale Bowman), on Twitter and Instagram (@BowmanOutside) or email (BowmanOutside@gmail.com).
