Two people were killed and two others injured in a crash Saturday due to a driver traveling the wrong way on the Stevenson Expressway.

About 4:20 a.m., a red Nissan was headed north in the southbound lanes and collided head-on with a taxi in the middle lane of Interstate 55 near Kedzie Avenue, Illinois State Police said.

Adelaido Torres, the 33-year-old driver of the Nissan, and Imtiaz M. Baig, the 57-year-old driver of the taxi, were both killed in the crash, state police said.

Two passengers in the taxi were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where they were listed in critical condition, state police said.

It was not immediately known if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

Southbound lanes were closed at Kedzie Avenue for several hours while authorities investigated.
