Legendary songwriter and in-demand live performer John Prine has announced he’ll have to reschedule a string of tour dates in order to undergo surgery.
”In consultation with his doctors, John has been advised that he has an elevated risk for a stroke,” reads an announcement posted Tuesday on Prine’s social media accounts.
”He will have surgery this week to insert a stent which will remedy the issue. He looks forward to a full and speedy recovery.”
Eight dates are affected, including a show at Red Rocks in Colorado (rescheduled for Sept. 18) and an Aug. 11 appearance at the Edmonton Folk Festival in Alberta, Canada.
Prine’s next European tour is still on, and it’s scheduled to kick off Aug. 23 in Sweden. His wife and manager, Fiona Prine, wrote on Instagram that the musician ”is in wonderful hands with his amazing doctors in Nashville.”
”Surgery is Friday… and this is a photo of what we’ll be doing in a few short weeks… walking to the stage again, ready to folkin’ rock n roll.”
Prine, 72, is a cancer survivor, undergoing successful surgeries in 1998 and 2013.
He brought his Tree of Forgiveness World Tour to Ravinia earlier this summer.
