Metra wants to renovate 95th Street station at Chicago State University

Metra said Monday it wants to renovate its 95th Street station at Chicago State University in an effort to create a transfer hub and boost local business — although no deadlines have been announced.

The transit agency entered a “memorandum of understanding” with the university to revitalize the stop with a new platform and adjacent 119-spot parking lot for commuters, Metra said in a statement. There is no timeline to begin construction, Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile said.

The memorandum envisions a new 95th Street/Chicago State University station that would feature a new stair enclosure, elevator and on-demand heater.

Metra and CSU hope to “provide safe and accessible transportation options and stimulate economic growth on the far southeast side of Chicago,” with the new station, Metra said in a statement.

Metra plans to begin design work on the station immediately, according to its statement.
