The Lake County coroner has identified the man and 13-year-old girl killed Saturday in a crash in northwest suburban Round Lake Beach.

Mariela Marin, 13, was in a passenger seat of a Pontiac G6 about 7:30 p.m. when the car crashed into a condominium building in the 1500 block of West Crystal Rock Court, according to Round Lake Beach police and Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper.

Marin, a Round Lake Beach resident, and the driver, 35-year-old Santos Ayala-Ramirez of Chicago, were both rushed to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where they died, authorities said.

A witness told Round Lake Beach police that the Pontiac was speeding in a 25 mph zone on Long Lake Drive prior to the crash, police said. The two damaged units in the condominium building were unoccupied during the crash.

Preliminary autopsy results show Marin and Ayala-Ramirez both dies of blunt force injuries from the crash, Cooper said.

“We have been in close contact with both families and our deepest condolences go out to them during this difficult time. This is truly a tragedy,” Cooper said.

Round Lake Beach police and authorities continue to investigate, Cooper said.
