Man hit by vehicle, dies in suburban Wheeling: police

A 60-year-old man died after being hit by a vehicle Thursday in suburban Wheeling.

About 8:45 p.m., officers responded to calls of a person being hit by a vehicle on Wolf Road near East Strong Avenue, according to Wheeling police. Once they arrived they found Jimmy Harris, who was later identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office, in the road with serious injuries.

Harris was rushed to Lutheran General Hospital in serious condition, police said. He died from his injuries Sunday.

An autopsy conducted by Monday determined his death to be an accident, the medical examiner’s office said.

The driver of the vehicle and multiple witnesses remained on the scene and the cooperated fully with the investigation, which is ongoing, police said.
