An 86-year-old man was fatally struck by an ambulance Wednesday in north suburban Des Plaines.

Navin Christian was crossing the street about 11:07 a.m. Aug. 7 in the 8900 block of Potter Road when he was struck by a private ambulance van, Des Plaines police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

He was not in a crosswalk when the Lifeline ambulance pulled out of a driveway and hit him, police said.

The North Maine Township Fire Department took Christian to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he died at 8:45 p.m., authorities said.

An autopsy released Friday found Christian died of multiple injuries from an ambulance striking a pedestrian, according to the medical examiner’s office. He lived about a block away from where he was hit.

No charges or citations have been issued in connection with the case, which remains under investigation by the Des Plaines Police Department Accident Investigation Team, police said.
