A man found dead in a burning vehicle on the South Side had been shot, according to an autopsy.

The man was found dead in the passenger seat of the burning vehicle about 10:45 p.m. Sept. 11 in the 5900 block of South Parnell Avenue, Chicago police said.

He was identified as 75-year-old William Edward Spann Jr., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in Chatham.

An autopsy found the man died of multiple gunshot wounds, the medical examiner’s office said.

Area South detectives are investigating.
