An overload of Labor Day traffic led police to temporarily shut down exit ramps of Lake Shore Drive on the North Side.

Exit ramps were closed Monday afternoon between Wilson and Bryn Mawr avenues because parking lot areas were congested with too much vehicle and foot traffic, a police spokesman said.

“Officers are temporarily closing the exits to fix the issue and they should be reopened soon,” the spokesman said.

It was unclear when police first shut down the exit ramps. The ramps were still shut down at 5:30 p.m.
