‘Probable tornado’ reported near Waukegan: weather service

Commercial buildings and trees were damaged as a result of the reported storm, the weather service said.

National Weather Service Chicago

A “probable tornado” was reported in north suburban Waukegan Tuesday.

A supercell storm was reported about 6:40 p.m near York House and Lewis Road., according to storm reports from the National Weather Service. The storm traveled east toward the lake. Commercial buildings and trees into the Lyons Woods Forest Preserve had minor damage, and a car was upturned.

Visual evidence suggests a tornado landed, creating a “very narrow” damage path for about two miles to the lakefront, the weather service said. Officials will make an official confirmation Wednesday.

One minor injury was reported, the weather service said.
