A Niles woman was killed and a man seriously injured Thursday in a crash near Morris in southwest suburban Kendall County.

The woman, 72, was southbound on Illinois Route 47 about 1:40 p.m. when her 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo veered into the northbound lanes near Sherrill Road and struck a 2007 GMC Sierra head-on, Illinois State Police said.

The woman was pronounced dead on the scene, state police said. The driver of the GMC, a 44-year-old man from Girard, was airlifted to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Illinois State Police are investigating.
