As week 2 begins around Chicago outdoors, I plan to hit the Northern Illinois Sports Show on opening day this afternoon. There is a strong local lineup of seminars. Not sure if I will get there in time to see the opening seminar or not. Capt. Richard Holms presents on “The Search for Lake Perch” at 12:30 p.m.

I had planned to hit opening day for the Muskie Expo Chicago on Friday, but am keeping an eye on the weather forecast. We’ll see. The Expo is usually one of my favorite shows of the year, at its best there is a delightful extremeness swirled with weirdness.

The Northern Illinois Sports Show runs through Sunday at the County Fairground & Event Center in Grayslake.

The Muskie Expo Chicago runs through Sunday at Pheasant Run in St. Charles.

The Greater Chicago RV Show is at the Schaumburg Convention Center through Sunday.
