A 24-year-old Harvard woman died after crashing into trees on New Year’s Day in unincorporated area near Woodstock.

The woman was driving a Dodge Caliber about 2:50 a.m. Wednesday when her car left the road in the 11100 block of Charles Road and struck multiple trees, the McHenry County sheriff’s office said in a statement. Investigators are unsure why she veered off the road.

Deputies responded to the single-vehicle crash on Charles Road, west of Queen Anne Road, and found the woman dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office said. She was the solo occupant, and was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the crash. Toxicology reports are pending from the McHenry County coroner’s office.
