A woman is accused of driving drunk and fatally striking a man with her car Thursday in south suburban Chicago Heights.

India C. Collins, 23, is charged with one count of felony aggravated DUI involving death, according to Chicago Heights police.

Authorities responded about 6:40 p.m. to a crash near 14th Street and Western Avenue, police said. There, officers found a 60-year-old man in the roadway who had been hit by a car.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. He lived in Chicago Heights.

Investigators determined Collins, who was driving a 2015 Hyundai Accent, had hit the man and then caused a multi-vehicle crash nearby, police said.

Collins was taken to Franciscan Health Hospital in Olympia Fields for minor injuries to her face, police said.
