A man was killed in a multi-vehicle crash Sunday in north suburban Des Plaines.

Authorities responded to a crash about 7 p.m. in the area of Elmhurst Road and Golf Road, Des Plaines police said. Mount Prospect police and paramedics were already at the scene.

According to preliminary information, a 2019 Chevrolet Impala northbound on Elmhurst “at a high rate of speed” struck a 2008 Nissan Altima that was trying to make a right turn, police said.

The man driving the Nissan, 46-year-old Alejandro Arzeta, was taken to Lutheran General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

An autopsy found Arzeta died of multiple injuries from a motor vehicle collision, the medical examiner’s office said. His death was ruled an accident.

His son, 13, was also in the car and he was taken to the same hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

The 33-year-old man driving the Impala was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in serious condition, police said.

Des Plaines police are investigating.
