Police were called to a serious crash Dec. 17 in Joliet.

A 55-year-old woman died after being hit by a car Thursday morning in Joliet in the far southwest suburbs.

She was identified as Maria K. Dinardo of Joliet by the Will County coroner’s office.

The woman was hit by a car about 6:50 a.m. in the road near Jefferson Street and Hammes Avenue, according to a statement from Joliet police.

She was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver remained at the scene of the crash.

A police investigation is ongoing.
