Chicago police are warning residents of three vehicle thefts reported in January in Hyde Park on the South Side.

In each incident, the victim parks but leaves their vehicle’s engine running as they go into a store or restaurant, Chicago police said in a community alert. After the victim enters the store, a person jumps into their vehicle and drives off.

The thefts happened:

  • Between 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Jan. 26, in the 1300 block of East 53rd St;
  • About 8:40 p.m. Jan. 27, in the 1400 block of East 57th Street; and
  • About 11:30 p.m. Jan. 28, in the 5100 block of South Lake Park Avenue.
