In 2018, Disney announced that big changes were coming to Epcot, with the biggest transformations coming to the front of the park, currently known as Future World, reports The Palm Beach Post, which is part of the USA TODAY Network.

Disney has now announced that Epcot will be known as EPCOT, recalling the acronym’s original meaning when the park opened in 1982 – experimental prototype community of tomorrow.

Late last year, a new logo was unveiled which, like the name change, hearkens back to EPCOT’s original logo.

The transformation of the front of the Florida theme park will be the biggest overhaul Disney has undertaken at any of its parks, as Future World becomes three neighborhoods: World Discovery, World Nature, and World Celebration.

World Discovery will focus on science and technology and will be the home of a new Guardians of the Galaxy roller coaster, set to open in 2021.

World Nature is “dedicated to understanding and preserving the beauty, awe and balance of the natural world,” according to Disney.

World Celebration will be the epicenter of the various festivals that have become a staple for EPCOT, including the International Food & Wine and Flower & Garden festivals.

“We had a couple of tenets we used for this transformation – more Disney, more family, more timeless, more relevant,” Michael Hudgen, Walt Disney World Portfolio Executive Producer at Walt Disney Imagineering, said in December about undertaking the transformation.

A new ride, based on the movie “Ratatouille,” will also be coming to the France pavilion in the World Showcase, where guests will “shrink” down to the size of Remy and race around Gusteau’s restaurant.

“Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure” is slated to open sometime this summer.
