The venerable Music Box Theatre in Lake View is the latest movie house to shut down temporarily to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Theater execs said in a statement Monday that the cinema at 3733 N. Southport will close starting Tuesday, with an eye toward reopening April 3. Screenings and events scheduled during that time have been canceled or postponed.

The closure follows on the heels of the Gene Siskel Film Center, another favorite of Chicago cinephiles, closing its doors until April 10.

Previously purchased tickets may be refunded and exchanged by phone at (773) 871-6607 Ext. 2.
