A man fell onto the electrified third rail Sunday at the Howard Station in Rogers Park in what police believe was a suicide.

The man, who appeared to be in his 30s, fell onto the third rail about 2:35 p.m. at the Howard Station, 7519 N. Paulina St., according to Chicago police. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police said the death was an “apparent suicide.”

An autopsy confirmed the man died after coming into contact with the third rail, and ruled his death a suicide, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Red, Yellow and Purple Line service was suspended on the North Side for nearly three hours, the CTA said. Trains are running again, with residual delays.
