A man was fatally shot Thursday in Englewood on the South Side, police said.

About 8:36 p.m., he was in the 6300 block of South Sangamon Street when he heard shots and felt pain, Chicago police said.

He was struck in the chest and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as 26-year-old Steven Earl Williams Jr.

Area One detectives are investigating.
