Police are conducting a death investigation after the body of a decomposing woman was found Thursday night in the South Shore neighborhood.

Officers responded to a well-being check about 11 p.m. and found her inside a second-floor apartment in the 7400 block of South Chappel Avenue, Chicago police said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office has not yet ruled on the cause of death.

Area One detectives are investigating.
