A man was struck and killed by a semitrailer Monday evening while he passed through stopped cars at an intersection in Humboldt Park on the West Side.

Witnesses saw the man in between cars, talking with people at North and Kimball avenues, Chicago police said.

When the light turned green at 7:30 p.m., an eastbound semitrailer began moving forward and struck the person with the semi’s rear wheels, police said.

The semi driver stopped after people yelled that he had hit someone, police said. The driver got out and saw the person under the truck.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

He was identified as Luis Galdos, 41, by the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy confirmed he died of multiple blunt force injuries from the crash and ruled his death an accident.

The 39-year-old semi driver went to St. Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center for blood tests, police said. He was cited for failing to stop for a pedestrian.

Police did not have additional information about charges Tuesday morning.
