A woman was killed in a crash Wednesday in Chatham on the South Side.

The 83-year-old was driving a 1998 Honda Accord about 6:23 a.m. in the 7800 block of South State Street when she accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes, Chicago police said.

The car slammed into a cement barrier, ejecting the woman from the vehicle, police said.

She was pronounced dead about 4 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy found she died of injuries from the crash and ruled her death an accident.
