Police are conducting a death investigation after a man was found with a gunshot wound Thursday Gresham on the South Side.

The man was found unresponsive about 7:10 a.m. in an alley in the 7800 block of South Union Avenue, Chicago police said. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as Michael Anthony Davis of Hazel Crest. An autopsy found the 66-year-old man died of a gunshot wound to the neck and ruled his death a homicide.

Police said the man has a “suspect hole in his face,” but didn’t confirm if the death was being investigated as a homicide.

Area Two detectives are investigating.
