Todd Maher emailed last week, “Morels in Cook County.”
“I was walking thru the woods today when I saw a few morels just starting sprout,” he emailed. “It won’t be long before they are in full bloom.”
With that, Morel of the Week begins again.
Glad Maher got that in before the weather changed. And that reminds me, I would love to see a photo of morel mushrooms poking through snow.
I would also note that Cook County holds 1,635 square miles. In other words, Maher made sure to not give much away.
MOTW, the celebration of morel mushrooms and their stories (the stories matter, as this one shows) around Chicago outdoors. MOTW will run, as warranted, Wednesdays and/or Saturdays in the outdoor section of the paper Sun-Times. The online posting here at https://chicago.suntimes.com/outdoors goes up at varied days of the week, depending on what is going on the wide world of the outdoors.
