Elmhurst University issues all-clear after reports of man with gun near dormitory. No one taken into custody

The gunman was reportedly seen near Niebuhr Hall, a student dormitory, the university announced online about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Elmhurst University issued an all-clear alert Wednesday evening after reports of a man with a gun on the west suburban campus.

No gunman was found and the university lifted the lockdown about 6 p.m, according to a statement from the university and the city of Elmhurst.

A gunman was reportedly seen near Niebuhr Hall, a student dormitory, about 3:30 p.m., the university announced online. Students were asked to shelter in a locked room until officials declared the scene secure.

The all-clear was issued after university public safety officials conducted a search of the campus, according to the statement.
