A Hometown police officer was fatally struck by a vehicle Saturday morning in the southwest suburb.

The officer, 58-year-old James Kouski, a 34-year veteran of the department, was struck by the vehicle about 3:10 a.m. while investigating a separate DUI crash in the 9000 block of South Pulaski Road, according to Hometown Chief of Police Louis Dominguez and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The driver was taken into custody, Dominguez said, and Illinois State Police and the Cook County sheriff’s office were leading an investigation.
