A man was shot and killed Sunday evening in Joliet in the southwest suburb’s second homicide in a week.

Jwaun Jones, 18, was shot about 9 p.m. as he rode as a passenger in a vehicle near Western Avenue and North Bluff Street, Joliet police said in a statement.

He was dropped off minutes later at St. Joseph Medical Center, where he died, police said. The Will County coroner’s office said he died of a gunshot wound.

A week earlier, a 19-year-old man died in a car crash at the same intersection, according to the coroner’s office.

Last Wednesday, on March 31, a woman was shot and killed in Joliet. Sonja Underwood, 56, was shot and pronounced dead at 2:20 p.m. in the 200 block of South Illinois Street, the coroner’s office said. Police were conducting a homicide investigation.
