Rich Gannon: Watching Jay Cutler makes me sick to my stomach

There’s no wrong opinion when it comes to the Bears right now — unless that opinion involves anything remotely positive.

Former NFL quarterback Rich Gannon went a step further Monday, telling 670 The Score that Jay Cutler’s performance actually makes him ill.

“The quarterback, to me, makes me sick to my stomach,” Gannon told radio hosts Mike Mulligan and Brian Hanley. “His footwork is atrocious at times. You see him back there in the pocket, throwing off his back foot, he’s got happy feet, he’s off-balance. It’s an accident waiting to happen.

“He’s part of the problem. He’s not the whole problem, but he’s certainly part of it. You look at the offense … and it’s a fairly talented group. I don’t know where to begin. It’s a mess and unfortunately it’s gonna cost some people their jobs.”

Gannon then pointed his finger specifically at defensive coordinator Mel Tucker.

“Mel Tucker, he has not done a good job,” Gannon said. “No question about that. When you give up that many points, you don’t make adjustments or have answers. I don’t know how you can say he’s done a good job.”

Gannon opened the interview with an assessment of the whole team and took exception to Marc Trestman’s post-game comments.

“That’s embarrassing what happened last night,” Gannon said. “What’s so troubling to me is this is a team that came off their bye, well rested, had a chance to go back and re-assess what they did and really come out and try to salvage the second half of the season. To me last night it looked like a team that wasn’t ready to play. I listen to Marc Trestman’s comments about this being a team that’s preparing hard, working hard. I don’t know how you can say that.”
