Safety Ryan Mundy named media's 'Good Guy' for 2014

Bears safety Ryan Mundy, who is in his first year with the team, was named the 2014 winner of the “Good Guy” award, which is presented by the Chicago chapter of the Professional Football Writers of America.

The award is voted on by local members of the PFWA. It’s based on a player’s professionalism, courtesy and respect throughout the 2014 season.

Mundy has consistently been available to all mediums during the practice week and after wins or losses. The Bears had plenty of candidates to consider this season, including left tackle Jermon Bushrod and defensive ends Willie Young and Jared Allen.

“It’s something I’m proud of,” Mundy, a six-year veteran, said in a statement. “Being there for the media is particularly important with the season we are having so we can help tell the story.

“If no one says anything, writers are left to write whatever they think is going on. The message can get distorted. I’ve tried to give perspective on where we are as a team. That was my role, one of my responsibilities I took on this year.”

There is a display in the media room at Halas Hall that recognizes “Good Guy” winners. The inaugural winner in 2013 was backup quarterback Josh McCown.
