Bears waive offensive tackle Paul Cornick

Offensive tackle Paul Cornick’s run with the Bears didn’t last long. On Thursday, the Bears waived Cornick after he failed his physical, according to the league’s transaction wire.

Cornick had been claimed off waivers on Tuesday from the Denver Broncos. He was waived by the Broncos on Monday after they drafted Colorado State offensive lineman Ty Sambrailo in the second round.

Having played for coach John Fox and offensive coordinator Adam Gase in Denver, Cornick was believed to be in a favorable situation with the Bears. The 26-year-old started six games, including three at right tackle, last season with the Broncos.

The Bears want competition for right tackle Jordan Mills. Tackles Michael Ola (last year’s top reserve at guard and tackle) and Charles Leno Jr. (a 2014 seventh-round pick) remain on the roster. The Bears also drafted TCU’s Tayo Fabuluje in the sixth round, but he’s considered a project.
