There were two quarterbacks among the 26 tryout players that reported to the Bears’ rookie minicamp Friday.
Former Delaware quarterback Pat Devlin, 27, is the more well-known of the two, having started his career at Penn State before transferring after the 2008 season. He threw for 32 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in two years with the Fighting Blue Hens and was signed by the Dolphins in 2011. He was on the Vikings’ practice squad in 2014.
Former Northern Arizona quarterback Chase Cartwright is the other tryout candidate and practiced alongside undrafted free agent signee Shane Carden of East Carolina.
The Bears invited two former Illinois players — punter Justin DuVernois, who averaged 44 yards on 77 kicks as a senior, and Mike Heitz, a 6-6, 310-pound guard.
Former Illinois State cornerback Dontae McCoy, an all-Missouri Valley honorable mention, is trying out, too.
