Despite having possibly the best season of his career, Jay Cutler is nothing more than a below-average quarterback, according to some NFL observers.

A group of writers at The Big Lead ranked all current and incoming quarterbacks based on the following criteria: “If you could have a QB over the next three years, with an emphasis on next year, who would it be?” They ignored salary cap.

For Cutler fans, the results were staggering.

The top five in order were: Aaron Rodgers, Cam Newton, Russell Wilson, Andrew Luck and Tom Brady.

Other notables ranked ahead of Cutler: Matthew Stafford (14), Kirk Cousins (18), Blake Bortles (20) and Teddy Bridgewater (21). That would make Cutler the worst quarterback in his division.

According to 2015 numbers, Cutler finished 16th in passer rating and 17th in total QB rating. The 32-year-old veteran will be the 15th highest-paid quarterback next season.

The good news: Cutler finished ahead of Jared Goff (29), who has yet to throw a pass in the NFL, and Peyton Manning (35), who has likely thrown his last.
