Eddy Pineiro has a message for Mayor Lori Lightfoot: he’s working on it.
Two days after she ended a press conference by telling the Bears to find and offense and Pineiro to “find your leg again,” the kicker smiled Friday.
“All right, cool,” said Pineiro, who was introduced to Lightfoot, a season-ticket holder, before the Bears’ opener. “Tell her I said, ‘Thank you.’ I’ll try to find my foot.”
Pineiro missed two first-quarter kicks against the Rams. He agreed with special teams coordinator Chris Tabor’s assessment that he was over-eager because the ball flew well in warm weather.
“For me it wasn’t a mechanic issue,” he said. “Just got excited, tried to hit the ball.”
Tabor told him after the game the Bears wouldn’t bring in kickers to try to replace him.
“Obviously the coaches believe in me and I appreciate that,” he said. “Now I just gotta prove to them on Sunday I’m the guy they’ve always picked.”
