Bears guard/center James Daniels (68) has a lot of room for growth in his third NFL season after starting 26 of 32 games the past two seasons. “With the length and the size that James has, I think he has a chance to be a very good guard,” new offensive line coach Juan Castillo said.

The transition from left guard to center was easier in Year 2 than it would have been as a rookie, James Daniels said. The reason: He knows his teammates.

A college center, Daniels said the move has gone well.

“Pretty much the footwork’s the same and everything’s the same — except holding the ball instead of having a hand down,” he said.

Cody Whitehair, who switched positions with Daniels, can appreciate Daniels taking on the new role.

“James is a stellar athlete, very smart kid who hasn’t missed a beat there,” he said. “He’s done a great job.”
