Aaron Rodgers takes a dig, but Matt Nagy thinks Bears’ Mitch Trubisky ‘aced’ beer chug

Coach Matt Nagy has watched the film of quarterback Mitch Trubisky chugging a beer — the strangely de rigueur stunt for quarterbacks this offseason — during the Indians-White Sox game Friday.

His verdict: Guard Kyle Long was more efficient, but Trubisky, who sat next to Long in the luxury box, held his own.

‘‘That was impressive,’’ Nagy said after the Bears’ practice Wednesday during organized team activities. ‘‘Mitch did a good job. He’s obviously at the age where he can do that, but the chugging — not to promote it, but I was proud of him. He aced the test.’’

The chugging shenanigans started when Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers couldn’t finish a full glass during a Bucks playoff game last month. The next day, Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford’s wife posted a video of Stafford downing a beer while watching the Bucks on television.

Rodgers seemed to take a shot at Trubisky and Stafford when asked about the drinking contest Wednesday.

‘‘As far as those other guys,’’ a smirking Rodgers told reporters, ‘‘for some of them, there’s finally a talent where they can say they’re better than me at.’’

Nagy on Butkus

Nagy posed for a picture with Bears legend Dick Butkus, who surprised Khalil Mack with his linebacker award Tuesday. Nagy texted the photo to Chiefs coach Andy Reid, as if to say, ‘‘How cool is this?’’

‘‘A lot of respect for Dick Butkus from coach Reid,’’ Nagy said.

Nagy showed the Bears clips of Butkus before he arrived.

‘‘You’ve gotta remember, we’ve got some young kids on this team,’’ Nagy said. ‘‘For them to be able to see what type of player he was at middle linebacker and the different things he did, the way he hit people, the way he played — and then to see him here talking to our guys — is powerful.”

This and that

Safety Eddie Jackson didn’t practice after having his heel stepped on Tuesday.

‘‘It was just more precautionary,’’ Nagy said.

• Undrafted free-agent receiver Emanuel Hall hasn’t practiced during OTAs because he had sports-hernia surgery, Nagy revealed.

Hall had some issues with the area coming out of Missouri, Nagy said. The Bears opted for surgery when it started nagging him last month.

‘‘We said, ‘Let’s go in and just get it all fixed, so when you get back here for training camp, we’re ready to go,’ ’’ Nagy said.

• New Bears receiver Cordarrelle Patterson purchased No. 84 — which he wore with the Vikings, Raiders and Patriots — from tight end Ben Braunecker.

‘‘I had to pay a lot of money for it, though,’’ Patterson said. ‘‘It ain’t good when you’re spending money.’’

Braunecker will wear No. 82.

• The Bears hosted the families of three Illinois state troopers killed in the line of duty this year: Christopher Lambert, Gerald Ellis and Brooke Jones-Story.
