With Eddy Pineiro on IR and Cairo Santos having missed twice in the first four games, the Bears are keeping their options open.

Whether it’s dissatisfaction with Cairo Santos, concern about Eddy Pineiro’s injury or simply that the Bears are always scouring the earth for a kicker, they will work out journeyman Kai Forbath this week.

Forbath, 33, has been on nine teams in 10 years and most recently was on the Panthers’ practice squad last month. For his career, he has made 86.8% of his field goals and 93.8% of his extra points.

His last full-time work was with the Vikings in 2017, when he made 32 of 38 field goals.

Pineiro hit 82.1% of his field goals last season, his first in the NFL, and was looking to improve on that before suffering a preseason groin injury. He has been on injured reserve all season, with the Bears turning to Santos until he gets back.

Santos, who also kicked for the Bears in 2017, has made 5 of 7 field goals and hit all eight of his extra points. His only misses have been from 46 (at Atlanta) and 50 yards (home against the Giants).
