Bears coach Matt Nagy said Monday that he’s had great communication with chairman Geroge McCaskey, president Ted Phillips and general manager Ryan Pace during the season, but said he’s had no conversation about his job status in the wake of Sunday’s loss.

“We haven’t had any of those discussions,” he said. “Again, for me and I said it to y’all [Sunday] night, my job is to make sure that I’m taking care of these players and this team and anything else. When that time comes, we have those discussions. But like we have four games left and I just appreciate where our guys are at. I appreciate where our coaches are at — the meetings that we had [Monday] morning just talking through where we’re at and how we have to get this thing fixed.

“And I know it sounds monotonous — trust me, I understand it. I know it’s frustrating for all of us and it just seems like the same thing over and over. We know that, so we got to get that win.”

The McCaskeys have never fired a head coach during the season. Asked whether he still felt the support of ownership, Nagy said he did.

The coach said he’s talked with the highest levels of the franchiser regularly.

“When I have those conversations with George and Ted I just appreciate them being to understand it from my end and the things that we’re going through,” he said. “And how we do it.”

The Bears have lost six-straight games, the last three against NFC North opponents and the last two in spectacular fashion. They trailed the rival Packers by 31 through three quarters at Lambeau Field and blew a 10-point lead in the final three minutes of Sunday’s loss to the Lions. They had a 96% percent chance of winning before the Lions scored their first of two touchdowns inside the three-minute mark.

“In regards to Ryan, when things are easy and you’re on winning streaks and things are going well the communication is always good,” Nagy said. “But when things aren’t going well, that’s probably to tell you the truth — like right now, when we’re struggling and we’re going through and we’re trying so hard to get things right because we care so much — the communication gets even tighter. There’s more of it. There’s more real conversations, real talk, trying to find solutions, trying to find answers.

“ And the one thing where Ryan and I is that we’re both very honest people, and so if he has something where he’s trying to help me out or I have something where I’m talking to him or helping him out, we say that. We’re working really closely together on that stuff and then we relay all that stuff as we go with George and Ted. And during this time it’s only become even tighter.”
