Bears cancel 2020 season-ticket packages

The Bears did the inevitable Friday, canceling season-ticket packages in 2020. If the team is able to host fans in a socially distanced setting, season-ticket holders will be allowed, exclusively, to buy single-game tickets.

In a letter sent to season-ticket holders Friday, president/CEO Ted Phillips said the Bears “continue to work closely with city and state officials and public health experts regarding potential opportunities to allow fans to attend regular season games this fall, but the presence of and the exact number of fans that will be allowed into Soldier Field has not yet been determined.”

The NFL does not have a uniform plan for fans to attend games because of the spread of the coronavirus. If fans are allowed to attend games at all, it will likely be at 20 or 25 percent of the stadium’s capacity. Fans will wear masks, and teams figure to lean on technology to maintain social distancing.

“If fans are allowed to attend regular season games at Soldier Field this year, the opportunity to purchase individual game tickets during the 2020 regular season will be made available exclusively to [season-ticket holders], with [personal seat license] holders being given first priority,” Phillips wrote. “There will be no multi-game packages for 2020. All ticket sales would be on a single game basis.”

Phillips said that two preseason staples have been canceled: Family Fest, the annual exhibition at Soldier Field, and Varsity Bears, in which the team practices at a local high school.

He reiterated, too, that fans will not be allowed at training camp. The Bears are set to report to Halas Hall on Tuesday but figure to begin with conditioning work instead of practices.
