Blackhawks trail 3-0 after ugly first period

Chicago entered tonight’s game at Carolina as one of the hottest teams in the NHL, but had difficulty weathering the storm in the first period.

Winners of 13 of their past 15 games, the Blackhawks were outshot 16-5 and trailed 3-0 at the first intermission.

To make matters worse, Chicago will begin the second period on the penalty kill as 1:30 remains on Andrew Shaw’s two-minute minor.

Jay McClement put back a rebound just two minutes into the game to give Carolina the 1-0 lead:

John-Michael Liles made it 3-0 after taking a pass from former Blackhawk Kris Versteeg:

As you might expect, Joel Quenneville isn’t happy.
