McDonald's Canada app seeks to prevent 'frymes'

The legions of people who love McDonald’s french fries now have a novel way to protect their stash of crispy, golden goodness. Like most everything else in life, there’s an app for that.

McDonald’s Canada is promoting a “Fry Defender” included in its new mobile app. When activitated and the phone is placed near your unattended french fries, the app uses motion-detection technology to loudly alert you — and everyone around you — to an attempted fry theft. Something a promotional video terms “frymes.”

It’s a nice tongue-in-cheek advertisement for McDonald’s fries but maybe not as catchy as “Leggo my eggo.”

Writer Mark Wilson made this observation in an article for Fast Company: “If you decide you can’t trust me enough to leave me with your french fries, why would you ever be so bold as to leave me with your phone?”
