Downtown fireworks-gazers will have to be a little more creative as they stake out a spot to watch the Fourth of July show, with Navy Pier shutting its gates at full capacity.

The lakeside tourist site announced about 8 p.m. that no one else would be admitted.

On-site parking at Navy Pier reached capacity well ahead of the event.

No more vehicles will be allowed in after 6 p.m., Navy Pier representatives said, but there’s parking available nearby at these garages that offer 12 hours of parking for $15:

  • Grand Plaza Self Park, 540 N. State St.
  • Ogden Plaza Self Park, 300 E. North Water St.
  • Millennium Lakeside Garage, 5 S. Columbus dr.
