Target taps Amazon executive to overhaul supply chain

NEW YORK — Target says it has tapped an Amazon executive to lead the overhaul of its supply chain that has been stretched by the demands of e-commerce.

The discounter, based in Minneapolis, has named Arthur Valdez as executive vice president, chief supply chain and logistics officer. Valdez spent the last 16 years at the online leader, where most recently he was vice president of operations focusing on the company’s international supply chain expansion.

The appointment comes as Target Corp. is trying to better blend its online services with the physical store shopping experience.

The company reported last week that online sales surged 34 percent in the fourth quarter after jumping 30 percent in the previous quarter.

Valdez starts on March 28.
