Marcello’s Father and Son Restaurant will be closing its Logan Square location Sunday after 72 years of business.

Owner Billy Bauer, son of the restaurant’s founder, cited building maintenance issues as a major factor behind the location’s closing.

“The roof, the structure ... there’s a lot of things that need to be done to that building, it really needs to be torn down,” Bauer said. “There were just too many major expenses.”

Marcello’s Father and Son Restaurant’s Northbrook location will remain open. Bauer said that some Logan Square employees will be relocated to Northbook and some will work for the restaurant’s catering business, which includes food trucks.

“We’re really shifting into the full-service catering and food truck business,” Bauer said.

In honor of the restaurant’s closing, all beer will be sold half-price until Sunday.
