Perdue Foods LLC is recalling about 4,530 pounds of chicken nuggets sold under the Applegate Farms brand.

The nuggets may be contaminated with plastic materials, the U.S. Agriculture Department said in announcing the recall.

The Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets were produced Setp. 29, 2015. The recall covers 8-ounce boxes with the establishment number “P-2617” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The nuggets were sent to distribution centers in Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York, and Texas.

The USDA said the problem was discovered after consumers complained of finding small, clear plastic pieces inside the packages.

Consumers are advised to throw away the boxes or return them to the store.

Perdue Foods is a food processor in Gainesville, Georgia.
