Weed businesses set sights on 2 more locations in Chicago

Two more addresses have surfaced as potential sites of standalone recreational marijuana dispensaries in Chicago in River North and the West Loop — neighborhoods that have been highly sought after by pot businesses.

In the filings with the city zoning board last week, Nature’s Care Company is seeking approval for a dispensary at 810 W. Randolph St. — the former site of Olympia Meats butcher shop in the West Loop.

Meanwhile, PharmaCann wants to build at 444 N. LaSalle St. in River North. The building used to be home to English Bar and Restaurant.

Last week, the Sun-Times reported that six marijuana companies had already submitted a total of 20 locations as they sought locations for a total of 13 dispensaries.

Not all of the locations will end up with pot shops, as some of the companies are seeking locations close enough to each other that approval of one would lockout the other — city rules prohibit pot dispensaries from being closer than 1,500 feet from each other.

The request to open at 810 W. Randolph St., for example, is across the street from a request made to open at 807 W. Randolph St. previously.

Other companies sent in applications on more locations then they had permission to open, apparently in case locations get rejected or don’t pan out.

The companies will still have to hold community meetings on the locations before going before the Chicago Zoning Board for approval.

None of the companies responded to requests for comment Friday.

Among the locations sought previously by Windy City Cannabis was at 923 W. Weed St. in Lincoln Park.
